Day 11
The wonderful world of copyright laws is dull and frustrating at best. Perhaps nothing rubs me the wrong way as some of the litigious nonsense protecting the intellectual, and often times not so intellectual, property of knowledge hoarders abroad. Information ought to change hands freely for the purpose of enlightenment rather than find itself entangled in a jungle of red tape and copyright laws. Free thinking isn't so free anymore, and although I do appreciate the idea of intellectual property, I feel I must stand against it. Every fiber in my body pleads for separation from the copyright laws of today. Money is a strong motivator, but so is the sharing of ideas for the greater good of the human mind. I will conclude with a line which I refuse to cite in protest of the late copyright conundrum, "Laws never made men a whit more just."

You say it best. Greg - You say it best. Everyone just needs to chill the heck out and add a few Smuttynose Robust Porters to their diet. Copyright makes me sick, just like the bureaucrats who deem it necessary.
ReplyDeleteVery true. I have to say the whole copyright thing makes me incredibly frustrated. So many times I have been told, nope can't use this...nope, can't use that - when in reality it would be the best thing to use in the situation. The use of the material would better my understanding and others' as well. Yet, the best stuff is off limits. I agree that knowledge and the sharing of it should be free. When you can't share knowledge what is the point of having it? There used to be a time in which the sharing of knowledge was the driving force of culture and daily life. Myths, folklore and fairytales are all forms of ideas that were not copyrighted and they were passes on freely and subject to interpretation. Where would civilization be if knowledge were not shared freely?
ReplyDeleteI think Nietzsche and Hegel would be proud.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Pat, and you Greg, but I also think Mr. Henry David Thoreau would be pleases.
ReplyDeleteHere here! Well said! I'm off to pirate some programs just for fun!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to put up so much copyright laws when in an education setting as many of these things benefit society as a whole.
It's one thing for a writer to desire some money for his hard work. It's another to leave children in lower class secondary schools in the dust for their district not having enough money for something.
